04/28/2005: Meanwhile, over on the Cubs beat....
Is Carlos Zambrano f*cking crazy, or what? According to the Chicago Tribune, Zambrano is already facing a suspension for getting ejected from his second game in five starts this season (he's been ejected three times in 19 starts dating back to last July). And this would be the second suspension that I'm aware of; Zambrano was suspended last season (I want to say mid-season or so) after being ejected for throwing at Jim Edmonds of the Cardinals (I remember the incident, if not the timing). Whether Zambrano threw at Edmonds might be debated (my recollection is that the pitch might have gotten away from him), but Zambrano didn't help his case by taunting and gesturing at Edmonds (and a few other Cardinals, as I recall....).
As always, I like BSTommy's take:
That being neither here nor there, we gotta do something to calm Big Z down a little bit. I like the fire. But I'm afraid he's gonna pull out a gun and shoot an umpire and/or an opposing player some time this season. I just can't get behind that. I don't like umpires or any of the St. Louis Cardinals either, but we can't count on Mark Prior or Mrs. Wood to start 30 times. We don't need to see Zambrano-doubtful (incarcerated) in the newspaper.
