04/20/2005: Thought for the Day:
We can't accept in America the simple fact that greatness may have only one dimension. General Patton is only a soldier but a very great one. His opinions on anything military are invaluable and probably right. His opinions on anything else are valueless and shouldn't be given the slightest credence. In America we have alway insisted on asking Henry Ford for his opinions on education and Thomas Edison for his opinions on the hoop skirt or smoking cigarettes. We can't believe that any genius has a peculiar talent. We have to think that he is the fully rounded man, an oracle, an authority on every subject.
