04/18/2005: Sad news....
Richard H. Popkin has died. Popkin was one of my teachers at Washington University in St. Louis; his professional specialty was history of philosophy/intellectual history, with special emphasis on early modern philosophy, particularly Spinoza. I had him for a class on classic rationalist philosophy, and he was truly a gifted teacher. He shall be missed, no doubt.
Credit to Brian Leiter (the first link above is to his blog entry announcing Popkin's death).
Unfortunately, Popkin was addicted to conspiracy theory regarding the John F. Kennedy assassination, and I think it's a bit unfortunate that Prof. Leiter, in his notice of Popkin's death, links to a biography of Popkin at JFK assassination site. I hope that Prof. Leiter's promised links to memorial pages are posted soon.
