Occasioned by the return of the national pastime to the national capital:
The disaster that the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals/DC Reunited franchise has been over the last five years is well-documented, most memorably in the new version of Baseball Prospectus 2005, which details in hilarious form the way Major League Baseball extorted the citizens of DC and then backed off when the populace rose up and said that, all told, they'd rather the negotiations be carried out using prison rules. The Nationals are finally ready to go this year, playing in a decrepit stadium that looks like Tupperware left in the microwave too long and with a general manager who signed free agents this season simply because he had nothing better to do.
