04/11/2005: Retro Memories...
It's gone from "Rock 'n' Roll" to "Retro" in this Friday's opening of the downtown Chicago McDonald's.
This article shows a photo of the New "Retro" version of the "Golden Arches" and has the obligatory "history" of the Mega-Franchise.
As an aside, other "Retro Memories": It was one of my former River Forest neighbors who are the owners of this particular "McD's" hot spot...but they will always be remembered by my kids for having owned one of the "historic" River Forest homes. Their home was a Medditerranen style residence built by the son of a R.F. "First Family", and it had these ornate cut glass window with stained glass pictures of the Ships of Christopher Columbus sailing to America as motif.
Our other "McD" funnsie was another neighbor who (at the time) was the "McD's" food director and often utilized the Hamburger "U" Test Kitchen as his Indian Princess outing site to take all the Dads and Daughters for a food-filled field trip and taste-test drive of the "potential products" that sometimes made their way on to McDonald's menus. Tho' I'm not personally a "fan" of their food, this FUN was Too Kool for for that bunch of grade-schoolers -- and they loved to get this secret view of "McD's" and make their own special treats in the "test kitchen."
