04/10/2005: Veggie What...?
As a "Hot Dog Day" Update...I Don't know if this is Good OR Awful..."Veggie dogs, come and get yer veggie dogs here!" RFK Stadium is joining ten other Major League Baseball stadiums this year by offering veggie dogs on their menu when the Washington Nationals debut at their home opener on April 14, 2005.
Health-conscious and vegetarian baseball fans in the Nation's Capital will now be able to join many other fans across the country, noshing on a tasty veggie dog at the ol' ballgame.
Soy Happy, a consumer advocacy service, has been influential in opening the door to veggie dogs in America's baseball stadiums. Actress/activist Johanna McCloy (Ensign Calloway in Star Trek: The Next Generation) created Soy Happy in 2000 after discovering that no MLB stadiums offered the item.
"ARAMARK is pleased to offer vegetarian hot dogs to our baseball fans at RFK," said Rob Sunday, resident district manager, ARAMARK Sports and Entertainment Services. "ARAMARK understands that the palate of today's fan is more diverse than ever and takes great pride in offering options that reflect these expanding tastes. Through consulting with the advocacy service, Soy Happy, ARAMARK believes that offering veggie dogs at RFK is an idea whose time has come." Veggie dogs offered will be kosher and non-GMO. They will be offered at two stand locations at the stadium.
The Washington Nationals join ten other MLB teams in offering the tasty veggie dog option on their stadium's menu. To date, the following baseball teams also offer veggie dogs to happy and satisfied baseball fans at their stadiums: Chicago White Sox; Los Angeles Dodgers; San Diego Padres; Florida Marlins; San Francisco Giants; Toronto Blue Jays; Seattle Mariners; Oakland Athletics; Houston Astros; and Milwaukee Brewers. Additional stadiums are also consulting with Soy Happy and considering the addition of veggie dogs to their menus later this season.
