04/07/2005: Jest a Bit More Rope Ought To Do It...
All I hear on the TeeVee is a lot of jabberwocky about "Where are the Democrats..." and "Why aren't the Democrats front and center speaking out about_?"
But given this propensity for the Foaming-at-the-mouth-Republican-Leadership to hoist itself upon it's own petard...why bother throwing fuel on that fire? What's to say? As the "normal rank and file Republicans" get a good, long, hard look and listen to the "Extremist Values and Goals" of those supposed "Values Folks" and what their real agenda is for our country -- as expressed in what they find the time and inclination to rocket to the top of the pile of "National Emergencies" to draft, craft and pull new legislation out of "thin air" for the Courts to ponder over.
Maureen Dowd's had this latest entry in the NY Times:"Before, Republicans just scared other people. Now, they're starting to scare themselves.
When Dick Cheney tells you you've gone too far, you know you're way over the edge.
Last week, the vice president told The New York Post's editorial board that Tom DeLay should not have jumped ugly on the judges who refused to order that Terri Schiavo's feeding tube be reinserted. He said he would "have problems" with the DeLay plan to get revenge on the judges: "I don't think that's appropriate."
Usually, the White House loves bullies....
....When the Rev. Danforth, an Episcopal minister who prayed with Clarence Thomas when he was under attack by Anita Hill, says the party has gone too far, it's way over the edge."
So, why shouldn't Democrats just sit back, feed out a bit more rope and see WHO ends up hanging themselves with it from the GOP party. This hasn't been so much fun since the pre-election implosion of Illinois' favorite politico, Jack Ryan. I wrote this back then:
What I hear sounds suspiciously like the sucking noise of sour grapes over the inability of the Republican party to replace their favorite loser - Jack Ryan. Particularly funny is how Ryan went down, hoist upon the Republican Party's own "moralistic values" petard. What a guy! (Notice I don't use the words "moral values" as these seem to be only window dressing and propaganda ad slogans for the Republicans and G.W. - who wouldn't know a True, Moral, American value if he tripped over one.)
The Republican's sure don't like when the shoe is on the other foot - despite the fact that it's shoe of their own creation and fits like a glove."
And it's as TRUE as ever it was back then about the GOP's massive over-reaching on today's "flavor of the week" issue to whip up more support from the Christian-Right.
But the back-pedaling has already begun...and for anyone who missed it - Bill O'Reilly's appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher last Friday confirmed it. Bill's already tapped danced ALL OVER this "Schiavo Legislation" and the "Rule of Law" issue for his party. What a good dance it was too. LOL
