04/06/2005: Fun geek stuff....
As regular readers are well aware (i.e., considering the number of my posts that are inspired by or link to things that I read there), Slate is on my daily read list. A Slate article on the current state of soccer-playing robots pointed me to a webpage devoted to ASIMO, Honda's humanoid robot project.
Especially cool, for me, is this video clip of ASIMO running, albeit at only about 3 km/hour (i.e., less than 2 MPH). In case you think I'm easily impressed, you have to remember that building a machine which mimics human behavior isn't that easy; if it was then more people would be doing it.
Is it just my imagination, or is there actually reason to think that "realization" of Marvin the Paranoid Android in the soon-to-be-released big-screen version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy bears a bit of a resemblance to ASIMO?
