03/31/2005: My childhood is officially over....
Nestlé to close three St. Louis plants. This is important because:
The plants were formerly owned by Sunmark Inc., a St. Louis company known for a wide variety of candies such as Sweetarts, Willie Wonka brands and Pixy Stix -- sweet, non-chocolate candies.SweeTarts (to use the proper capitalization) were one of my two favorite candies of all time (Smarties are up there, too), and the fact that they were made in St. Louis while I was growing up made them that much neater. I'm going to be deeply saddened that they're not going to be made in St. Louis any more....
