03/14/2005: Interesting....
Over at The Flypaper Theory, blog proprietor The Pesky Fly relates the story of how Empire Coffee (a coffeeshop in downtown Memphis at Main and Madison) received a telephone call Thursday purporting to be from a Federal Agent telling them that they could not display any signage critical of President Bush during his visit to Memphis last Friday to tout his Social Security "reform" proposals to his usual hand picked crowd of admiring nitwits. FWIW, Empire's response was to post a sign of their own:
...and this is a paraphrase--- "We have been informed that we aren't allowed to display signs critical of Bush. We would like to remind the authorities that the First Amendment also applies in Memphis."Pesky's original post has sparked an interesting debate in the Memphis blogosphere; if you're interested you can catch Mike Hollihan's riposte here, while Pesky replies to Mike here. Pesky also has a few followups: an interview with the owner of Empire Coffee, and a Parthian shot can be found here.
