02/28/2005: Sunshiny Dreams of Golf...
I will be winging my way via United Airlines to West Palm Beach for a week of visiting In-Laws and Relatives (Ode-to-Joy to Clan Mac); R&R (much needed) and Golfing (much loved & enjoyed). Don't cha' just love all them free travel miles. *wink* This begins our official season of Round-Robin Men's Golf Invitationals for the Mac family at their respective Golf clubs. I get to relax, go beachy-keany, golf and shop with my sister-in-law. Charlie gets to golf an golf an golf to his heart's content.
However, as to fulfilling my weekly Bloggerie desires...my bro'-in-law has only a single phone line, no DSL. Could make it impossible to do much DBV posting. I will try. But there's stiff competition for use of said phone line for business modem dial-ups, work related e-mailing and daily usage as a Phone.
Ah...Just think of what I'll have saved up by then tho' for future postings. LOL And there is always the occasional Great Golf Story or Joke that I can throw yer way. So..until Sunday the 6th...I'm off to Floooooridaaaa. Hip-hip-hooray!!!
Now, even if you're not a Golfer...I can still make you sea-sick-green-envious about this trip by further detailing just what's the fun about these Golf Invitationals for us non-golfing-invitees or even social non-golfers: Click on the "more" button to read this...but only At Your Own Risk...
These "Invitationals" are Men's-Only tournaments that last 3-4 days. First day is the "practice round" to get feel for how the course is playing. It includes copious amounts of food like a Breakfast Brunch, luncheons at the half-way house, knoshes and drinks along the course followed by a Men's night of informal BBQ with cards, drinking, cigars and most importantly wagering on the outcome of the various teams and flights in the Golf Pool Betting.
The next day is the first tournament round. It includes all of the daily amounts of food listed above, but switches in the evening to the "Couple's Cocktail Party". Whatever you do, where ever you are...you DO NOT miss the "Cocktail Party." This cleaver euphemism is for a night with literally ROOMS of food. You begin, refreshing cocktail in hand, in a room of just appetizers: petit fours, mouth sized bites of succulently created epicurian delights, pastries filled with crab or shrimp, bacon wrapped chestnuts, small meats on skewers and sauces.
Moving on, is a room of just fresh Seafood: oysters on the half shell, oysters Rockefeller, crab claws, crab cakes, mussels marinara, clams, chowders, seafood pasta, shelled jumbo shrimps or prawns, lobster, cooked Orange Roughy, Salmon, Halibut, Tuna and fish all types in a myriad of sauces.
Following that orgy of sea-festiveness, there is a room of the Entre' items: Roast beast, lamb carved from the bone, Cornish hens or Chicken, Duck or other fowls roasted to perfection. Au jus and gravy flow like rivers of wine for mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, noodles, rice, vegetables in all shapes colors and types.
Finally....if you have a morsel of room left over, is the Coffee and Desert Table room. Cakes, pastries, pies and other delicacies are arrayed before your ogling eyes...just choose as you will. Enough for everyone and a few hundred more...
The next day is more Golf, more food and drinks. The following day is the final round event with the prizes, any play-offs (as needed to settle ties.) Special events like "Closet to the Pin" and "longest drive" contests winners are determined. And the Golf Betting Pool Winnings and trophies awarded at a Formal Dinner Dance event ---and, of course, more wonderful Food.
Quite Posh it is...and these true Golf-a-holics are addicted to the sport...so why not go whole-hog and enjoy it to the fullest. And we Do...LOL
