02/01/2005: The Five-Second Rule
Here's one Rule that's been used at my house on more than one
occasion...and finally someone's been cleaver enough to check it out...scientifically!
Check out this amazing research (and other facinating stuff you never knew....or
needed to know...) at one of my favorite sites: the Ig
Noble Awards.
Jillian Clarke of the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences received
her 2004 Ig Noble award for "investigating the scientific validity of the
Five-Second Rule" about determining whether it's safe to eat food that has
been dropped on the floor. (My link did not function...so to read this Fact-filled
research paper...click on my Ig Noble Awards button...find the
"List of All the Winners" and click...then look for the Five-Second Rule
winner listed there...Sorry!! Len already KNOWS I have a techno-deficit...so,
I'm working on that one.)
Now, fess-up...isn't this something we've all wanted to know
but we're too afraid to ask?

Why does that strike me as being as incongruous as, say, the "Orthodox Jewish Pork Producers Association"? Outside or Wrigley Field and (then) Old Comiskey Park, I don't recall much agriculture going on in the Windy City during my stay there.
