02/01/2005: Karen's Trivia Q: Answer
I'm still only operating on 1/4 impulse warp-speed brain power (which every good Trekkie worth their salt knows is how you conserve warp core strength and prevent core melt down)...but in any event...here's the answer to Monday’s Trivia (and Why should I care) question. I asked a mix of factual, movie and book related trivia in this question:
In the movie Heavenly Creatures by director Peter Jackson (introducing a very young Kate Winslet as Juliet), what did each girl, "Juliet" and "Pauline" (the other girl), grow up to do later in life following their release from detention for the brutal murder of Pauline's own mother...and what are their current names? Bonus points if you can tell me where each currently resides.
This 1994 film by Peter Jackson was about a real-life murder in Australia: Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker brutally bludgeoned to death Pauline’s mother during the summer in the early 1950's. Both girls were sentenced to juevenile prison detention until adulthood and forbidden to ever see one another again. Juliet Hume is the author and mystery writer, Anne Perry (who’s wonderful series with Inspector Monk…not to be confused with Adrian Monk of the TV series comedy...are a favorite of mine; though I like MONK starring Tony Shaloub too!) Perry currently live in Scotland and still write prolifically.
Pauline Yvonne Parker-Rieper (played by Melanie Lynskey) now goes by the name Hilary Nathan. She never married, has become devoutly Catholic and helps handicapped children, She lives in a small dilapidated cottage near the town of Strood, England and operates a riding school for young children.
