01/31/2005: More on the VW "Suicide Bomber" spot....

Apparently, the spot isn't a hoax (snopes.com alleges that the production values and apparent production cost argue against it being either a hoax or a spoof); apparently the UK newspaper The Guardian is reporting that it is a self-promotional effort by a British creative team who intended to use the spot as a marketing tool for their services. It's up in the air to what extent the release of the spot to the Internet was intentional or not.
According to snopes.com, Volkswagen will be pursuing a lawsuit against the creators of the clip.
