01/26/2005: The Flogging of Lawrence Summers
Unless you've been in a cave this past ten days or so (and let's just be clear, I'm not trying to denigrate anyone's idea of a holiday here...caves can be nice) you surely caught the flogging of Lawrence Summers, the President of Harvard University, regarding the dearth of women in the science fields and his numerous apologies.
Ahh...that all good an well, but I have a much more "radical" thought to throw on the Fire of philosophical inquiry (and I'm working on the final ideas and implications...to be posted later):What if Women Ran the World?
And I don't mean just one leader...one country...competing in the "male dominated" world paradigm that we've all been living in...but in a more general sense of changing some of those "gender assumptions" and "gender role models" that would/could lead towards the goals of a more peaceful, co-existenal (Star Trekkian) model of "One earth...different people...cooperatively working together."
It's always been said if people were given "just one wish" that most would chose "Peace On Earth."
So, I have some musings, scientific possibilities and just plain "out there" thoughts about this...
But it's worth considering as the "thought of the week" as in:
"How different a place would the world be if Women set the policies, political agendas, and were in leadership positions to have Women running the World.

To continue along a similar line.... the next part of the George Carlin monologue I quoted in the post right above this continues (repeating a bit o'the quote for context):
'This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently-run universe, this guy would've been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And by the way, I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man. No woman could or would ever fuck things up like this.'

Toilets would have one-piece molded seats.
There wouldn't be wars, but the USA would hear terrible things said behind its back at conferences that the snooty nations wouldn't attend.

I wasn't going to mention it, but since you brought it up ("There wouldn't be wars...").
A favorite Robin Williams line: If women ran the world there wouldn't be any wars. Just some really heavy negotiations every 28 days....
