01/23/2005: Apparently, congratulations are in order....
to Kate Stelnick, 19, of Princeton, NJ. Ms. Stelnick has accomplished the seemingly impossible, and met the Denny's Beer Barrel Pub challenge, eating their six pound "Ye Olde 96er" hamburger and all the trimmings in under three hours. [Note: Denny's Beer Barrel Pub is a proud local establishment in Clearfield, PA, and is not to be confused with the national restaurant chain.]
In case you're curious, "all the trimmings" entails:
- Two whole tomatoes
- A half-head of lettuce
- 12 slices of American cheese
- A full cup of peppers
- Two entire onions
- A river of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard
According to Urban Legend Reference Pages, she managed to eat the six pound burger (and another five pounds of "fixin's") in 2 hours and 54 minutes. For her trouble she received a certificate, t-shirt, some other prizes, and the pub picked up the tab (regularly $23.95) for her burger.
The ULRP mentions that Ms. Stelnick weighs 100 pounds. I assume that is a "before the burger" weight; nothing is said about how much she weighed afterwards.
Nor is mentioned how many gallons of Pepto-Bismol were necessary to ease the mass of meat through her gastrointestinal tract afterwards.
