01/22/2005: Interesting baseball trivia department:
The "Ask BA" column in Baseball America has published an interesting table (you have to scroll down if you follow the link) listing the 20 players, since the start of the baseball player personnel drafts 40 or so years ago, who have gone straight to the major leagues without spending time in the minors first. A few names that I recognize pop up on the list: Burt Hooton, Dave Winfield, Bob Horner (who played 1B for the Cardinals in 1988 after 9 seasons with the Atlanta Braves), Pete Incaviglia, and Jim Abbott.
All in all, a pretty rare distinction.
