01/19/2005: Still chasing the dream....
During his four seasons as a Memphis Redbird (interrupted briefly by a cup of coffee in St. Louis in 2001), journeyman minor league second baseman Richard Keith "Stubby" Clapp became a fan favorite in AutoZone Park (not least of which for his Ozzie Smith derivative trademark backflips when he took his place on the infield). I was sorry to see him depart for the Braves organization in 2003, but it was good to see him star for Team Canada in the Olympics last year.
And it's just as good to see that he's discarded plans for retirement in order to spend another 1-4 years chasing his dream. We'll wish him the best of luck in achieving his goal (even if it won't be as a Cardinal), and keep an eye on him.
