01/19/2005: Gem o'the Day:
As always, I'm probably making a mistake by going with a daily gem this early in the morning, but I literally laughed out loud when I read this:
I just saw that [LA Dodger closer Eric] Gagne signed a two-year deal with the Dodgers to avoid arbitration. I know a year ago, he lost his arbitration case after winning the Cy Young and not blowing a save. I wish I could've heard that case. How in the world did he lose?
Gagne: "I didn't blow a save, had an ERA of about 1 and won the Cy Young."
Dodgers: "But on July 8, 2003, you let a runner reach second base."
