01/18/2005: Classy....
Former Cards righthander Woody Williams returned to St. Louis yesterday to say goodbye to Cards fans at the annual awards dinner of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Quoth Woody:
"Obviously, I say this in appreciation for what the fans have done for me," he said. "They loved me from the word go and didn't even know who I was. They spoiled me. They spoiled my family with the way they were treated inside the stadium. You don't look to replace that because you realize how special it is. St. Louis is baseball. I know they have the Rams and the Blues, but you don't think about it."Woody was in town to receive the Darryl Kile Award, which is awarded by a vote of the players. Congratulations to Woody, and best of luck to him with the Padres next season (except when he pitches against the Cards).
