01/17/2005: Birthdays of note...
Apropos the "Thought for the Day", today is the 298th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin.
Today is also the birthday of Raymond Lee Cunningham. Ray, who came up to the majors for two cups of coffee with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1931 and 1932, is presently the oldest living Cardinal. And, as a post at The Birdwatch notes, with the death of former Washington Senator/St. Louis Brown Paul Hopkins on January 2, 2004, Ray became the oldest living player in Major League Baseball. Ray turns the century mark today.
We wish Ray a happy 100th birthday and hope he sees many more!
