Didn't cost me anything, since it isn't my desk.

The guy who designed/built it did it on commission. He says on the web page that the cost of the blocks was about $2,000 (based on the price of Legos in June, 2000, which is when he started the project). He declines to state his fee for the project, but given that it was a custom made work that took about a couple of months or so to complete I'd be surprised if it wasn't around $10K or so.
