01/01/2005: Hello, World
I'm Brock Sides, Len's new co-blogger. For those of you who don't know me from my previous blogospheric haunt, Signifying Nothing, here's a bit of an introduction:
Where I live: Midtown Memphis, about a mile and a half from Len.
Where I got my education: My BA is from Rhodes College, and my ABD ("All But Dissertation") is from the University of Rochester, where I was a PhD student until I determined that there weren't a lot of jobs available for philosophers, and dropped out to pursue my backup career. If you want to read a bunch of my philosophical writings from my grad school days, check out my philosophy page.
What I do for a living: I'm an all-purpose computer geek, doing Unix and Linux administration, database administration (Informix and MySQL), and Perl programming.
What I do for fun: I play a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, both with F.O.R.G.E., a Memphis role-playing games club, and with a small group of friends that have been playing together for over four years. I also play board games with the Memphis Strategy Boardgaming Community.
Animals I live with: Two black cats, Panther and Monkey. Maybe I'll post pictures of them someday. Because what the internet really needs is more cat pictures.
General political outlook: Center-left liberal, with a bit of libertarianism mixed in on vice, trade, immigration, and conscription.
What I'm reading now: Truth and the Past, by Michael Dummett.
I guess that will suffice for an introduction. Welcome to Dark Bilious Vapors!
