12/30/2004: The Worst of the Year?
Well, Pete Vonder Haar thinks so, and he is more qualified than me to say so, being a Real Life Internet Film Critic (for FilmThreat and all). Anyway, go check out his 12 Worst Movies of 2004 list, complete with snazzy quotes from Pete's reviews (but go read the whole reviews; yes they're That Good).
As for myself, I'm proud to say that I didn't see any of the movies that made Pete's list. So I can say it's been a pretty good year, at least for movie viewing.

Thanks. Even if "Internet Film Critic" carries about the same amount of cred as "Personal Shopper" or "Administrative Assistant to the Executive Administrative Assistant."

I dunno.... These kinds of lists never interest me because they are just lists of Hollywood big-budget flops. Too easy. These are all movies I'd never see anyway, so what do I care? On the other hand, the list of critics' faves is another list of films I won't see either. All a bunch of self-important films that celebrate the depressing. Gah. Give me "Zatoichi" or "Janice Beard -- 45WPM" any day.

Well, Pete, if your sole claim to the title of "Internet Film Critic" was that you did movie reviews at your blog, that'd be one thing. But since you managed to somehow persuade, trick, bribe or blackmail the folks at FilmThreat into letting you write for them, you have a bit more cred than I do. Then again, even "personal shoppers" or AAttEAAs have more cred than I do.
But I'll still keep reading your reviews, even if I disagree with your assessment of the flick in question, because they're seriously entertaining.
As for "Top Ten", "Ten Worst" or whatever other lists... they interest me more as a window into the personality of the critic or other person making the list. Kinda like another theory I have--that you can gain a certain amount of insight into a person by looking at what the books on her/his personal bookshelves are....

Personally, I think that Wiley and "Non Sequitur are the closest thing to the Second Coming of Gary Larson and "The Far Side" that's out there.
