12/22/2004: Looks like we're getting a white Christmas in Memphis this year....
And here's my take on that situation:
White Christmases suck. The best Christmas I ever spent was at the Westin Intercontinental Hotel (I think that was the name back then) in Manila, Philippines, where it was 98°F in the shade and I spent Christmas Day laying by the swimming pool and having gorgeous Filipina waitresses in skimpy bathing suits bringing me drinks as I needed them (or, if I was cooling off in the pool, swimming up to the middle-of-the-pool bar).
Now that's a Christmas!
UPDATE: The interesting thing about this year's winter storm though, is that I live at a fairly busy intersection in midtown Memphis, and I don't think I've ever seen the streets here so deserted as I have tonight. Apparently a lot of people are taking this as a good excuse to enjoy the pleasures of home and hearth.

What stinks is that I am stuck in Nashville. The Boss didn't let me out early enough today to make the trip to town AND watch the GMAC. Now, I am snowed in here (apparently).

Glad to find out you enjoyed your Christmas in the Philippines. Being from there and all, I just had to say that.

It wasn't bad enough to stop the drug trade in and out of the apartment behind me, though!

IIRC, for addicts, alas, drugs come in right behind air in the "absolutely must need" categories.
Hello there, and happy holidays to my reader(s) in/from the Philippines. I didn't just love the Christmas there. I was stationed there for a couple years when I was a U.S. Navy officer, and it was an absolutely beautiful country, filled with some of the most wonderful people I've even had the pleasure to meet.
If I ever win the lottery one of the first things I'll be doing is booking my plane and hotel for my return to the Philippines; I hope I don't die before I have a chance to get back there....
