12/20/2004: Thought for the Day:
Traditionalists like to complain about the rampant consumerism surrounding Christmas. I, however, am an avid fan of rampant consumerism, both as a participant and as a passive recipient. Rampant consumerism keeps myself, my family, and my friends gainfully employed. The money that we pour back into the system keeps others gainfully employed. It's like the Circle of Life, except that instead of tearing after gazelles on the plains of the Serengeti, I get my gazelles on sale at warehouse outlet stores. If I'm really lucky, there's a mail-in rebate for a free baby okapi. Beat that, Simba!
