12/13/2004: Fun at the Winter Meetings....
One of the problems with being busy at work this time of year (and the subsequent scrambling during the weekend to get done what's being ignored during the week) is that I'm not getting a chance to blog about the things happening at Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings. However, I've got to be amused by this. Over at The Cardinals Birdhouse Ray Mileur went out on a limb Saturday and announced that the Boston Red Sox signed Cardinals free agent shortstop Edgar Renteria.... Meanwhile, Ray's partner in crime (and in the Birdhouse), Brian Walton, is chanelling reports from ESPN's Jayson Stark that Edgar's agent is telling Walt Jocketty that Edgar ain't even close to signing with the Sawx yet.... Well, today Ray has this little squib up on the page:
Crow, it's what's for dinner. For what it's worth, Mileur is still saying Renteria is a Sox, while Walton doesn't think that's a done deal yet; if the Sawx sign Pedro Martinez and Jason Varitek (both supposedly top priorities for them) they may not have enough money to meet Edgar's demands.
Mileur will have to eat a lot of crow if Renteria doesn't sign with Boston.
We shall see....
UPDATE: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that free agent catcher Mike Matheny is now a teammate of Barry "better slugging through chemistry" Bonds. Is it too soon to congratulate Yadier Molina for his promotion to starting catcher with the Cards?
