12/08/2004: Apropos of a trivia question
It's been brought to my attention in the comments (by SadPunk of Sounds Like Mice) that NASA Astronaut John W. Young is retiring effective December 31 (registration required).
Young was a subject of one of the last set of trivia questions I posted, where he is mentioned as one of the second group of NASA astronauts selected (the so called "Next Nine", who followed the "Original Seven" Mercury program astronauts). Young, who is retiring at the age of 73, is the most senior in NASA service, and the oldest, of all the active astronauts.
After a long and distinguished career, he heads into a well deserved retirement. Congratulations, and good luck!
