12/06/2004: I lean towards the view....
that the notion of "team chemistry" is what Bill James referred to in his The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract as "a bullshit dump". But I have to wonder about this news (scroll down), which has me considering that "team chemistry" issues might well play a part in the NL Central this year:
Once Garciaparra and Walker re-enter the fold, the focus will turn to Sosa. But with so little interest in him, the Cubs are fully prepared to welcome him back for 2005 and find a way for manager Dusty Baker and Sosa to come to an understanding that won't put team unity in jeopardy.Of course, if they can't deal the man, they may have little choice. But given what I've seen already this postseason, I have to wonder if Sosa remaining in the Friendly Confines might be the kiss o'death for any Cub postseason hopes for 2005.
