10/28/2004: The Red Sox just got no sense of proper timing....
An email correspondent today reminded me that in the Catholic liturgical calendar, today is the Feast of St. Jude (aka St. Jude Thaddeus), who is one of four Catholic "patron saints of lost causes" (the four patrons of "desperate, forgotten, impossible or lost causes or situations" are St. Jude Thaddeus, St. Gregory Thaumaturgus, St. Philomena, and St. Rita of Cascia; you should be able to make quite a bit of money in bar bets for that one now. Please show some gratitude; I think that maybe 5% of the swag should be sufficient--I'm not greedy).
The Sox should have let the Cardinals win last night; it'd be much more appropriate for the Sawx to win on the Feast of the Patron of Lost Causes.
