[« It's official: Bush was full of shit (big surprise, eh?)] [My First Irregular "Keen Grasp Of The Obvious" Award.... »]
10/06/2004: Well, once again I fail....
Though I got a bit farther this time. I'd wanted to keep this space a Veep Debate-free Zone, but then Cheney has to fuck up, twice. First, he challenges us to go check "factcheck.com" if we wanted to see the truth about his record. Interestingly enough, if you do go to factcheck.com, you'll see that that domain name is redirected to GeorgeSoros.com, and if you've kept one synapse functioning this election season you know that Soros is the last person on earth who's going to be coming to the defense of Darth Cheney and Emperor PalpaBush.
I've been seeing speculation that what Cheney really wanted to say was to go check "factcheck.org" which is apparently a website that's more Bush-Cheney friendly. HOWEVER, that leads to Cheney's second fuck-up, which that he then lies about what factcheck.org says. According to my sources (dKos right now; attempts to follow the link I'm about to give here gives me "timeout" errors), if you go to the real factcheck.org website you'll see this:
Cheney got our domain name wrong -- calling us "FactCheck.com" -- and wrongly implied that we had rebutted allegations Edwards was making about what Cheney had done as chief executive officer of Halliburton. In fact, we did post an article pointing out that Cheney hasn't profited personally while in office from Halliburton's Iraq contracts, as falsely implied by a Kerry TV ad. But Edwards was talking about Cheney's responsibility for earlier Halliburton troubles. And in fact, Edwards was mostly right. [emphasis mine --LRC]dKos put it best:
The only reason this debate was even close was because Cheney could simply invent "facts" out of thin air. If Cheney was limited to the truth, it wouldn't have been close. The Bush/Cheney administration simply cannot defend its record.I won't even get into the "I never met Senator Edwards" issue. But hey, if Dick Cheney ever told me the sun was shining I wouldn't believe him until I'd looked out the window. I think that comedian Lewis Black said it best:
I've met Dick Cheney. I've never stood that close to Evil.
