10/05/2004: "Who's the greatest fighter pilot you've even seen?" "You're looking at him."
We've just heard that original Mercury Seven astronaut Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, Jr., died Monday. In addition to being the command pilot for the last Mercury flight ("Faith 7"), Cooper became the first man to make two orbital spaceflights when he was selected as command pilot for the Gemini 5 mission (he was paired with Charles Conrad in this mission).
