09/08/2004: Fascinating piece of Cardinals history....
over at The Hardball Times: Bing and Bob, Starring in "The Road to October". In this piece, Steve Treder reviews the performance of Cardinals General Managers Bing Devine and Bob Howsham in putting together a series of amazingly one sided deals (Brock for Broglio was only the tip of the iceberg, apparently) to put together the Cardinals championship teams of 1964 (World Series champ), 1967 (World Series champ), and 1968 (National League champ).
And in a sterling demonstration of the principle that "no good deed goes unpunished", what did Devine and Howsham get for their troubles? Fired.
Nope, there ain't no justice on Earth.
