08/31/2004: Sinking feelings department....
I may be keeping an eye on the AL Central race/AL Wild Card race this year.
Josh at Go Cardinals also maintains The Cardinals Link Blog, where he posts links to various mentions of the Cardinals around the web (thanks for the mention a week ago!). Yesterday, he posted a mention of Peter Gammons's ESPN.com column where Gammons had this to say:
The Twins don't have the thumpers to match New York, Boston or Anaheim, and they do miss Joe Mauer, but the defense is good, the hitters by and large make contact and they will have the HankeyDome noise and ceiling in their favor at home. This is the Cardinals' worst nightmare: The Twins have home-field advantage if they make it to the World Series. What could be worse? Fortunately, Kansas City isn't even close to being in contention (actually, they're due to be eliminated Any Minute Now), but the only thing that might strike more dread into my heart would be facing the Royals again and hearing that Don Denkinger was scheduled to be the first base ump in Game 6 (if needed).
Sorry, Pete; I won't mention Denkinger for the rest of the season. I think.
