08/29/2004: Good news, bad news (or: Wait til next year....)
The good news: Cardinals pitching prospect "WonderBrad" Thompson is off the DL. The bad news: Cardinal Nation is reporting that Thompson has been sent back down to the AA Tennessee Smokies in order to help them in the Southern League playoffs which start sometime in September (the Smokies' season ends on September 6, it appears). Since I have Redbird tickets for September 3, it looks like I've missed my chance to see Thompson this year. *sigh* Bad for me, but good for Thompson; it's probably a good thing to give him some starts in playoff games, to help him deal with that kind of pressure, and Memphis ain't making the PCL playoffs this year, alas.
However, at the rate Thompson's been developing the prospects are good that he'll be showing up in Memphis next year. Hopefully starting in Memphis instead of in AA Springfield (the Cards new affiliate next year).
