08/26/2004: Interesting sports metaphors department....
Mark Riley, on Morning Sedition just a few minutes ago, stated that he thinks that John Kerry "is a white guy Bob Gibson", referring, of course, to the St. Louis Cardinals' Hall of Fame RHP, who was known as one of the fiercest competitors in the history of professional baseball. (So fierce a competitor that, the story goes, he'd totally stomp his (then) nine year old daughter at checkers, because he could not stand to lose at anything.)
Um.... Mark...... Do the words "overstating the case" mean anything to you? Certainly, Kerry is much preferable to the alternative (four more years of the Crawford village idiot), but to be comparing his so-far lackluster campaign to the career of Bob Gibson?
Were I Gibson, I'd be filing suit for defamation later today.
As long as I'm mentioning Gibby, I'll trot out one of my favorite quotes about Gibson:
Gibson was a classic power pitcher, with a high leg kick and over-the-top delivery; his favorite pitches were High and Inside, Higher and Further Inside, and Right Down Your Throat.
