08/16/2004: Very appropriately....
before the Cardinals-Reds game tonight on ESPN2 they're showing "Utilityman", an hour long documentary of the quest of Jason and Randy Sklar to get Jose Oquendo in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Basically,an exercise in silliness, but some of the archive footage of Oquendo playing all 9 positions is priceless (the look on Deion Sanders's face in the clip where Oquendo, in one of his pitching outings, strikes him out looking, is worth the price of admission by itself). Still, in its own way a fitting tribute to "the Secret Weapon", and an acknowledgment of the role of the utilityman on a ballclub.
