08/16/2004: Significant days in baseball history:
Today is the 56th anniversary of the death of Babe Ruth (and, I suppose, the 56th anniversary of the first use of the imperative, "Babe Ruth's dead; throw some strikes!", at some flailing pitcher).
Today is also the 84th anniversary of "the pitch that killed": the beaning of Indians shortstop Ray Chapman by Yankees pitcher Carl Mays. Chapman is the only major league player to die from injuries sustained while playing.
