08/04/2004: Hold the presses...
According to The Cardinals Birdhouse (look in, of all things, the Tuesday Game Notes section in the right-hand column) there will be a "major sponsorship agreement" announced at noon today (I assume CDT). Citing the St. Louis Business Journal, Brian Walton states that this is going to be the announcement of the sale of the new stadium naming rights, a deal worth potentially as much as $100 million.
Somehow, I can't imagine Anheuser-Busch not winning that auction.
UPDATE: The Post-Dispatch says that, yes, indeed, the brewery did win the naming rights.
UPDATE II: It's official!
Welcome to Busch Stadium III. Somehow, it seems fitting.
UPDATE III (8/5/04): Ray Mileur's take, from The Cardinals Birdhouse:
For more than 50 years, the baseball stadiums in St. Louis have been known as Busch Stadium, and that tradition will continue for the next 20 years, the Cardinals announced Wednesday. Anheuser-Busch, based in St. Louis, has agreed to a 20-year naming rights deal with the club that ensures the new ballpark, set to open in 2006, will still be called Busch Stadium.
