07/22/2004: Sad news....
über film-TV composer Jerry Goldsmith is dead at age 75.
You probably don't know Jerry but he has a profound influence on your life nonetheless. And that's not the half of them. There's a very good chance you've heard more of Goldsmith's music than that of any othere single composer.
For more than 50 years, Jerry was one of Hollywood's chief film composers.
Before you were born Jerry was scoring Gunsmoke, the Twilight Zone, and Perry Mason on TV. His was the soundtrack behind The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Planet of the Apes. He scored Patton and Tora! Tora! Tora!, Chinatown, Logan's Run, and The Omen. He is the talent behind the score of Alien and Star Trek: The Next Generation and Poltergeist most of the Star Trek movies. He did Rambo and Basic Instinct and L.A. Confidential and Air Force One.
Now that's influence.

The theme from Perry Mason plays in my head whenever I read or watch anything mystery-related. It gets really inconvenient when I'm reading, say, one of the Miss Marple Mysteries.
RIP Jerry Goldsmith. One of the greats.
