07/20/2004: Ya gotta like these odds.....
From Josh Schulz at Go Cardinals!:
If the Cards play .500 baseball the rest of the year they'll end up with 92 wins (35 wins vs 36 losses). For the Cubs to catch them they'd have to play .620 baseball (or slightly worse than the Cards have played so far, but better than any other team except the Yankees has played).
If the Cards continue their excellent play they'll win 101 games. The Cubs would have to play .746 baseball (A pace that would result in 121 wins over the course of a full season).
If the Cubs play .500 ball the rest of the way they'll end up with (49 + 36 ) 85 wins. The Cardinals would have to win 28 more games the rest of the way to match that total (a .394 winning percentage worse than Seattle, Kansas City, Montreal, and Arizona).
So as good as it looks it's not over, if the Cards falter and the Cubs pitching gets healthy the Cubs have a shot at it.
