07/20/2004: Thirty-five years ago today....
That's one small step for man..... One giant leap for mankind.
--Neil A. Armstrong, July 20, 1969
UPDATE: Also thirty-five years ago today, legendary pitcher Gaylord Perry, then playing for the San Francisco Giants, hit his first career major league home run to beat the L.A. Dodgers, 7-3. What made the feat very interesting is that the prior year Cleveland Indians manager Alvin Dark had said of Perry, "They'll put a man on the moon before he hits a home run." Mankind barely won the race; Perry's homer came just twenty minutes after the clubhouse was informed that Neil Armstrong had set foot on the moon.
