07/18/2004: President Bush, have you no idea what irony is?
President Bush: "Yeah, it's like goldy or bronzy, only it's made out of iron."
(Apologies to Richard Curtis and Ben Eldon.)
I wonder if the President, or anyone associated with him or his campaign, saw the irony in this situation:
A Texas couple wearing anti-Bush t-shirts was handcuffed and removed from a Fourth of July Bush-Cheney campaign rally in Charleston, West Virginia.Bullshit, George. Actions speak louder than words, and your actions (for the actions of your campaign staff are your responsibility) and your policy of "free speech zones" where dissenters are herded far from your sight show the utter contempt in which you hold such ideals as freedom of speech, freedom of belief, and freedom of thought.
The Bush speech, given after the two, Nicole and Jeff Rank, were arrested, included a proclamation that "on this Fourth of July, we confirm our love of freedom, the freedom for people to speak their minds, the freedom for people to worship as they so choose." The president added, "Free thought, free expression, that’s what we believe."
