Robert Vamosi, at ZDNet, has an article out which warns us that there are a number of viruses out there that will turn your antivirus program off, so it behooves you to to check occasionally to make sure it's still running. Ditto your firewall program (if your'e running one). I have run into one nasty that did disable ZoneAlarm on a computer that I was managing, so I know such bugs are out there.
