"Are you sure you want to spend that money now? Maybe you'll need to buy something more important later, and then you won't have the money to buy it." Usually I spent the money now, and occasionally (not every time, but every once in a while) she was right; sometimes having spent the money, I had to do without something I wanted or needed more later because of it.

The newscast on Air America just reported that apparently President Bush is seeking UN sanctions against Iran on the very plausible grounds that Iran is working on acquiring nuclear weapons. (Flip side of the coin--look at what we did to Iraq, which wasn't working on acquiring nuclear weapons, and then look at what we haven't done to North Korea, which is newly working on them again, and then ask yourself if it wouldn't be stupid--or suicidal--for Iran not to start working on getting a nuclear stockpile?) I wonder if Bush will regret having squandered the bulk of the U.S. Army's warmaking power in Iraq, if it turns out that nuclear weapons programs in Iran or North Korea would have been a much more justified target for his "preemptive war" plans?
