05/30/2004: Catching up with some of the Rocky Top Brigade....

I notice that Janet Dagley Dagley was in attendance at Al Gore's NYU speech last week, and she gives us her impressions here. I rather liked this line myself:

In a one-hour sermon on the subject of Iraq, Gore used his full dynamic range, from a hoarse whisper to a top-of-the-lungs shout that left crying babies in its wake. Bland? Wooden? Not this Al Gore. It appears that Bob Dole syndrome -- boring-until-out-of-office -- is an equal-opportunity affliction.

Where was this Al Gore in 2000?

This highlights a big problem in the Democratic party. They sometimes seems terrified to state what the party believes for fear of being labelled a lib.

The accusation of "liberal" worked well for the Radical Conservatives for the past 20+ years. unfortunately for the RadCons, the country is relatively a lot more liberal than they were back when liberal became a bad word, especially on social issues.

Dems need to realize that and embrace the label "liberal" like the GOP has embraced the label "conservative."

Sometimes I think people need to remember that the Founding Fathers were liberal democratic republicans (small "d", small "r"); the conservatives of the time were pledging fealty to the Crown.
