05/23/2004: Nice to know....
that there's a respect for tradition in Chicago.
Watching the Cards-Cubs game at Wrigley Field (the ESPN Sunday night game tonight), and Phat Albert (or Prince Albert, if you prefer) Pujols just hit a solo homer, all the way out of the park into Waveland Avenue.
At Wrigley Field, there's a tradition that homers hit by the opposition are thrown back onto the field. As the ESPN cut to the Chicagoans out on Waveland, I thought of that tradition, and idly wondered if the fans out on the street went to the trouble of trying to throw the ball back on the field.
Just then, the camera cuts to a baseball being thrown on the field.
God's in his heaven, the Bleacher Bums are in form, and all's right with the world.
