05/22/2004: We saw a REAL ground rule double today....
Watching the Cards-Cubs game at Wrigley. In the bottom of the first, Derrek Lee hit a long fly ball into deep right centerfield that was slightly misjudged by Cardinals centerfielder Jim Edmonds. The ball flew right into the ivy about a foot or foot and a half above the ground, and got stuck, whereupon Edmonds invoked Wrigley's ground rule concerning balls stuck in the ivy.
The only reason I bothered recording that here is that it just occurred to me that this is the first time I've ever seen that happen, which sort of surprises me, considering that my second ex came from northern Illinois, all my in-laws were Cub fans, and we spent quite some time on visits to the in-laws watching Cub games on WGN.
