05/19/2004: Maybe the Cubs should try this?
The Tennessee Smokies are rolling out a promotion tonight, as Brad Thompson takes the mound trying to break the minor league consecutive scoreless inning record:
In honor of Brad Thompson's attempt at a 97-year-old minor league record, the Tennessee Smokies are announcing a two-for-one ticket promotion for the Wednesday night game against West Tenn. Any ticket purchased for Wednesday's game will also be honored for any comparable seat for a home game during the 2101 Smokies season. So if the Cubs make the postseason this year, should they give away a two-for-one providing tickets for the 2100 season?
"A chance to witness an event like this apparently only comes around every 97 years," Smokies General Manager Brian Cox said. "I know I won't be around in 2101, but I'm confident the GM of the future will honor the ticket."
Makes sense to me. They'd make a hell of an heirloom.
