Dark Bilious Vapors

I don't exactly think one is obligated to take one for the team like this. The idiots at Time Warner cable here appear to have chosen the ESPN2 feed of the Anaheim-New York game rather than the Braves-Cardinals game which is the featured ESPN2 Wednesday night game (oh, if only we had some competition). In that game (which I've since turned off in disgust; I simply don't want to watch another game--especially one featuring The Hated Yankees--after being primed for a Cards game tonight), we just saw Jorge Posada break up a double play--the hard way, namely by taking the relay throw from the shortstop to first base smack in the face. Judging from the replays, that had to smart. But while painful, it was effective; the Angels didn't turn the double play.

So anyway, since I can't bear to watch the Anaheim-New York game (it was an ok placeholder while waiting for them to cut the the Braves-Cards game, as an early announcement stated that the Cards game was delayed and that they'd transfer to it when it started up; imagine my disappointment when a quick glance at mlb.com confirmed that the Cards game had started and we were still at Yankee Stadium), I shifted over to SciFi. Right now, we're midway through Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, starring David Hasselhof. While Hasselhof is basically at best a mediocre, B-grade hack, when he sports an eyepatch, a cigar, and a couple day's worth of stubble he makes a convincing Fury, and overacts just enough to be convincing and enjoyable in that role. But this is just a placeholder for the 8 PM showing of The Shadow, which is one of my favorite bits of escapist fare. So while I'm pissed at Time Warner for a totally stupid decision (the Braves, as a southern team, have a substantial fan base here, while the Memphis Redbirds are the Cardinals AAA affiliate, so a Braves-Cardinals game would seem to be the no-brainer choice for baseball programming), at least the evening isn't a total loss.

I see that there's going to be a big motivation to move to digital cable and plunk the money down for the MLB Extra Innings package next year.
